Blind Contact Lenses
Blind contact lenses are particularly favoured by those dressing up as and portraying horror characters. The blind lenses provide a look just as the name says, one that makes the eyes appear opaque and of a solid colour giving that ‘blind’ look. At Funky Lenses, we stock this style of lens in black, white, grey, blue and red providing a variety of character and creature options that you can recreate such as zombies, vampires, ghosts and more!
When purchasing blind contact lenses it is important to consider the design of these lenses and how this might affect your use. The blind effect contact lenses feature a solid colour that covers the entire surface, including the pupil. Due to this, vision is significantly limited during wear. Unlike other contact lenses, blind lenses do not feature a pupil hole allowing very minimal light to enter the eye so whilst you may be able to see some light, clear vision is not viable. If attending a party or event, we recommend wearing only one of the blind contacts so that you are still able to see through the other eye. Why not try your blind contact lenses for a spooky photoshoot? You’re sure to make a real impression!
UV Contact Lenses
Embrace your inner magic by adding the spellbinding look of UV contact lenses to your costume. In regular light, these contact lenses appear as normal coloured contact lenses, but under blacklight, their specialised UV feature glows brightly. Particularly popular at events in nightclubs and haunted houses or wherever you might find specialised UV lights, these contacts add a bold element to any costume especially those with a supernatural edge.
Enhance your glowing appearance by pairing your UV-reactive contact lenses with our vibrant range of UV face and body paints! Just like our other contact lenses, these face and body paints will activate to produce a glowing result when under UV blacklight, so you can be sure that your vibrant look will make you stand out amongst the crowds!
The glowing effect of these contact lenses is only activated when under UV-specialised blacklight, they will not glow in the dark. It can be easy to confuse UV contacts with glow-in-the-dark contact lenses, however, it is important to consider this upon purchase. The elements used within the pigment printed on these contact lenses can only be activated by blacklight. The UV feature of these lenses does not make a difference in the maintenance of these lenses; they should be treated and looked after the same as any other lens.
Vertical Pupil Contact Lenses
Do you have a reptilian or feline makeup look in the books? You’ll want to add a pair of vertical pupil contact lenses to finish it off! The design of these contact lenses features a vertical pupil, also known as slitted pupils, to look like a cat, snake or alien. These looks are particularly popular in SFX makeup and Halloween costumes. This style of contact lens enhances the peculiarity of many looks and provides a distinctive result.
The speciality of a vertical pupil is the clear pupil hole that sits perfectly in the centre of the vertical pupil design. This pupil hole allows the wearer to sustain clear and sufficient vision throughout wear whilst creating the illusion of this unusual pupil shape. These contact lenses can be found on Funky Lenses in a range of vibrant colours, some of which include the UV-reactive feature.
Mesh Contact Lenses
Mesh-style contact lenses feature a unique and striking design. Similar to blind contact lenses, these cover both the natural iris and pupil, however, they are made up of a grid-like design that lets in a small amount of light through the tiny holes. Although a small amount of light can enter the eye, wearers should be aware that these contact lenses will still significantly obscure vision making them unsafe for certain activities such as driving. Just as is the case with blind contact lenses, mesh lenses are best used for short-term wear and during situations such as a photoshoot or makeup tutorial. If the plan is to include these in your costume for an event, try wearing only one lens so you can enjoy yourself safely.
Give your horror costume, spooky makeup look or haunted house character a terrifying twist with the striking appearance of mesh contact lenses. At Funky Lenses you’ll find a selection of colours such as red, black and even a UV pair in white!
Mini Sclera Contact Lenses
Transform your appearance with a dramatic effect by adding a pair of Mini Sclera contact lenses to your look. Whether you are portraying a supernatural creature at Halloween or looking for an accessory to enhance and exaggerate your alternative style, the Mini Sclera lenses will transform your vibe immediately. Not only are the Mini Sclera lenses available in a variety of unnatural colours, but their design creates the appearance of an extended and striking iris.
Although the Mini Sclera contact lenses feature a larger diameter compared to other lenses, they should be used the same as other contact lenses; do not exceed 8 hours of consecutive wear, and always remember to soak them for at least 2 hours before inserting them into the eye. Their clear pupil hole will allow for clear vision throughout wear whilst their advanced material will allow the eyes to remain comfortable.
Although these special effects contacts might come with unique features, their maintenance remains the same. Both daily and monthly durations should be removed from their blister packs or vials and soaked for a minimum of 2 hours in fresh contact lens solution before use; the solution within their storage package is of a much higher pH level which can cause discomfort for the eyes. Monthly lenses should be rinsed and closely inspected for any damage after each wear before being soaked in fresh contact lens solution within a tightly sealed case.
Ensure you are prepared to maintain and care for your contact lenses by stocking up on multi-purpose lens solution and sterile contact lens cases. Find everything you will need to ensure a safe and hygienic experience with your lenses in the Funky Lenses accessories range!
